I work on LaGrave Ave. and this window is a part of our building. I took a walk at lunch today to take in the warmest weather I have felt in a very long time. I’ve never noticed until today the reflection of the church across the street.

Commerce, continued
The photo I took on Commerce Ave. was pretty popular, so here is another one I took just before the shot from Friday. The first photo you saw was taken as I walked a few steps past the parking ramp.
A photography journal
I find solace in photography. It is one thing I can do that is my own, and in being a photographer I am a better person. I got into photography as a young teen, and over the years I have experimented with many different versions of the photographic process. I’m still quite partial to analog photography. I never grow tired of the magical experience of seeing an image appear as I rock the paper the developing tray.
Above is a photograph of a new project I have just published. Along with my love of analog photography, I also love being organized. I have looked many places, but have never found a journal that works for my photographic needs. This book has solved my problem. I now have a book that I can keep all of my exposure information in. Also, there is space to write notes about the location I’m shooting in as well as what is happening around me in the world at that moment. So far, I am loving it.

I usually see this building from the other side. It caught my attention today for some reason. I think it is because it reminds me of living in Chicago, and how so many if the neighborhood buildings were brick with slightly unsturdy looking back porches.

Wealthy Street
I am trying with great effort to get out of my winter funk, so I was happy meet up with a good friend of mine for dinner on Wealthy Street. I’ve mentioned Wealthy in the past. It is one of my favorite parts of Grand Rapids, and I lived in this area as a young, starving artist about 12 years ago. My old apartment is now a luxury condo. A lot if great local eateries continue to pop up on this Street and I love them all.

I just had to post a pic of one of my favorite lunch spots. I go there often enough that they know me by name. Today they were playing my favorite album of all time, Kind of Blue (Miles Davis). That along with the good food and good people created a lunchtime trifecta.

The polar vortex has turned me into a hermit. I had a good reason to return to the world last night to celebrate a friend’s birthday. We were treated to a reserved space at HopCat. If you love beer (Grand Rapids is Beer City USA) and you haven’t been to this place, you’ve got to try it. Go early! This place fills up quickly. Above is our view from the upper loft.
